Selection

What is the Outstanding Attorney selection process?
Outstanding Attorney uses a rigorous multi-step selection process. Read more…

How is this not just a popularity contest for attorneys?
During our audit phase in January 2009, we examine voting records of all top vote earners and voters to ensure credibility among both nominees and those who voted for them. The "Outstanding Attorney" award will be given to those among top vote earners that we independently verify through rigorous screenings and pre-award calls to attorneys, clients, and references in nominee's jurisdiction during the month of January 2009. After the voting period ends, top voters in each category will be asked to provide references that we can call to independently verify their candidacy.

Does an attorney pay to be published in Outstanding Attorney?
No. We maintain strict separation between research and advertising. The names of all attorneys selected by Outstanding Attorney are published in our print publications and at legalforce.com at no charge whether they advertise or not.

Does advertising improve the chances of being published in Outstanding Attorney?
No. We maintain strict separation between research and advertising. Advertising sales do not begin until after the selection process is completed.

How many lawyers make the list?
There is only 1 Top Attorney in the United States for 2008 award for each Area of Law. 1 lawyer from each City, State, and Area of Law will get a Top Attorney award for their jurisdiction. To be eligible to be a candidate for the 1 Top Attorney in the United States, you must be a top attorney in each of the lower jurisdictions as well.
